What a beautiful and grand story it is! God Himself came down from the heights of heaven, where He was recognized as the only Hoy One and rightly worshiped. He came and made His dwelling among us. Unrecognized, the God-Man appeared as just any other young Jewish boy growing up in First Century Israel.

God Himself walked around among us - what an unforeseen play by the hand of the Lord! Even though the scriptures had prophesied His coming, only the Spirit of God, who searches the heart of God, had eyes to see, ears to hear, and understanding to perceive.

Who is our God and what does this divine move say about His heart? He walked around unrecognized! For the first time I considered this truth and saw what divine comedy it is! He lived and grew up in Israel, and hardly anyone knew He was God! What other king would live this way?

The King of kings and Lord of lords was not bowed down to, was not served, was not acclaimed, nor was He worshiped or rightly given praise. On the contrary, He bowed down to the depths of a poor virgin’s womb, He submitted Himself to fallen parents and served them, He was spoken evil of and misunderstood, and He received reviling rather than worship and praise. 

Why was it in His heart to walk out redemption in this manner? God made His dwelling among us - though not with thunder, lightning, and perceivable glory. Rather, He had no beauty that we would look at Him and desire Him. We could not outwardly tell by His features that He was God. What does this reality speak about His heart? What’s more, God never changes! The Incarnation speaks of His eternal heart, His eternal desires! He was always this way! All those eons - waiting - biding His time for such a display!
